Stephen and Chris founded Middlesbrough Music Academy in 2024 with a clear goal: high-quality teaching in a relaxed, enjoyable learning environment.

Both are full-time musicians with years of experience performing live, working in bands and teaching. That real-world experience shapes our approach. Alongside the foundations, we teach practical music skills you can use and enjoy.

Every student is different. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or returning to music as an adult, we want you to make real progress and enjoy the process.

Our growing community, experienced tutors and fully equipped teaching space give you room to explore, build confidence and find your own sound.

“I highly recomend going to Middlesbrough Music Academy!!! My son started learning ukulele here and then moved on to guitar. What really stands out is how much the team genuinely cares about his progress. They build his confidence up naturally and actually tailor each lesson to what he needs.”

“Absolutely fantastic experience with Middlesbrough Music Academy. My child started with very little confidence on the guitar and has progressed massively thanks to the patience, encouragement, and skill of the teachers. The staff are friendly, professional, and genuinely care about helping students improve while keeping lessons enjoyable.”

“Stephen is an excellent ukulele teacher. He makes every lesson fun, relaxed and enjoyable, and the hour always flies by. As a complete beginner, I never imagined I’d be playing in little performances, but thanks to his patience and encouragement, I am! Friday ukulele is one of the highlights of my week.”

I’ve never played before. What should I ask?

Tell us which instrument you’re interested in and that you’re starting from scratch. We can discuss the right next step with you.

How much do lessons cost?

A 20-minute lesson costs £15 and a 45-minute lesson costs £28. The prices are the same for every instrument, including singing.

Do I need my own instrument?

No, we have plenty of instruments at the academy for you to use during your lessons. Many students like to bring their own, but there’s no requirement to do so.
